Where is Matthew?

This is not a philosophical question...though the answer could be he is in our hearts, in heaven, etc. This page addresses the physical question of where is he?.... People have asked us where Matthew is buried or where his grave is, and the answer is actually many places. When Matthew died, we chose to have his body cremated. Since that time, we have put Matthew's ashes in places that he visited and loved. or places that make us think of our beloved boy.

Below are a few pictures of places where his ashes have been scattered.

Kauai, Hawaii

In February 2001, our growing family (I was pregnant with Nathan and terribly nauseous and morning sick) visited the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Matthew loved the sand (including eating it!), the water, and chasing the chickens at the KoKee Lodge at the top of Waimea Canyon.

After Matthew's death, a good friend of Mike's offered to let us stay at his condo on the same island. We spent a week there in February of 2009, hiking, swimming, reading, and grieving. It is a beautiful island, and we visited many of the places we saw with 20 month old Matthew, and added some new adventures with 7 year old Nathan, including hiking part of the Kalalau Trail along the Napali Coast, snorkeling, boogey boarding, and sea kayaking. We sprinkled Matthew's ashes many beautiful and amazing places on this beautiful island as we began the long process of saying good bye.
