remembering Halloweens past

Matthew, Nathan, Mike and Jennifer all love halloween. Sometimes, well for Mike and Nathan at least, the planning of next year's costume can begin as early as November 1!

Mike and Jennifer started their love of dressing up together while in graduate school and then had big halloween bashes every year until we moved from Pillsbury Avenue South. In fact, Matthew was the Pillsbury Dough Boy at the last party there. He was so chubby and pale, in a white sleeper with a white kerchief around his neck and a white hat with the Pillsbury logo on it. He was adorable.

The past week has been really difficult. It is so hard not to miss him and long for him and wonder what he would have chosen for his Halloween costume. Nathan has been wondering the same thing. We both think he would be some sort of athlete. He was Joe Namath in 2008, Rod Carew in 2007, and Joe Dimagio in 2006. Sports really changed his life and made his world so much bigger. It was a joy to see him explore the history of sports and the athletes who played them. And that love of sports led me to search high and low for either the right jersey or a way of creating it so he could be his current favorite athlete each year. I miss his quirky love of sports history and I miss helping him dress up as one of those past sports stars.
